Pharmaceutical Company Standardizes Procurement & Finance operations with integration between Coupa and SAP S/4HANA
A global biopharmaceutical organization standardized its procurement and finance integration by implementing Rojo’s proven Coupa–SAP S/4HANA integration framework.
By leveraging the official Coupa Adapter and pre-built SAP Integration Suite content, the organization established a reliable, real-time connection between procurement and finance - eliminating manual reconciliations and ensuring consistent data across systems.
The result: improved financial control, reduced operational risk, and full visibility across the source-to-pay process.
Context and Business Requirement
Operating in a highly regulated environment, the organization required a stable and auditable integration between Coupa (spend management) and SAP S/4HANA (financial backbone). The integration had to support compliance and internal controls, while streamlining day-to-day procurement and finance operations.
Key business requirements included:
- Consistent and governed master data across both platforms
- Automated and controlled flows of purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoices
- Real-time visibility into commitments and payment status
- Compliance with internal controls and audit standards

Solution Overview:
Rather thandeveloping custom integrations from scratch, the organization selected Rojo’s standardized integration framework built on:
- The official Coupa Adapter
- Pre-configured SAP Integration Suite content
- Industry-aligned best practices
This approach reduced implementation risk, accelerated time-to-value, and ensured long-term maintainability, providing a reliable foundation for real-time Procure-to-Pay integration between Coupa and SAP S/4HANA.

Controlled Project Delivery
Following the completion of the Coupa functional design phase, the integration workstream was initiated. Rojo deployed the official Coupa Adapter and Coupa–SAP S/4HANA integration content as the foundation and adapted it to match the customer’s specific financial structures and procurement workflows.
This included:
- Adjusting standard mappings to align with the customer’s chart of accounts, cost center model, and approval structures
- Configuring business rules to reflect the organization’s invoice validation logic and goods receipt processes
- Implementing targeted customizations for invoice handling and supplierdata synchronization
- Enhancing validation and error-handling mechanisms to comply withinternal control and audit standards
The integration was validated through structured System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), in close collaboration with the implementation partner.
Dedicated go-live support ensured a stable transition to production with minimal disruption to business operations.
